The municipality's largest employer is Hvidovre Hospital, one of Denmark's most modern hospitals with 40,000 patients per year. Hvidovre Hospital is a university hospital and a front-runner in research within a number of fields a few of these are: molecular biological and immunological basic research, and research within; anaesthesia, apoplexy, HIV/aids, geriatry, nuclear medicine, virus and vaccines.
